Welcome!

Welcome to Kinderkiste Upsy Daisy e.V., a bilingual (English/German) kindergarten in Haidhausen, Munich! Upsy Daisy provides loving and enriching care and education for children aged 3 to 6 years old of all cultural backgrounds and nationalities.

We are currently allocating a small number of spots for the kindergarten year 2025/2026. Please go to enrollment to complete an application for our wait list.

Our kindergarten

Our kindergarten is located in the heart of Haidhausen, close to Pariser Platz. The bright, spacious premises, porch with mud kitchen, as well as the adjacent garden offer the kids plenty of space to play, learn, exercise and rest. Our newly built kitchen with a work surface at kids’ height means the group can cook together and learn how to prepare healthy and delicious food in a hands-on way.

Values

The small group size of only 16 kids with a very well-staffed and engaged pedagogical team allows for individualized attention and support. The atmosphere at our kindergarten is safe and welcoming, and we focus on children learning how to work, play and co-operate in a group beyond their family and on personal, moral and social-emotional development. As a highly international group, we value cultural diversity and emphasize teaching the kids knowledge of and respect for different cultural traditions.

Activities

Our daily pedagogicial activities, weekly sports and music classes and regular field trips offer plenty of opportunities for the kids to learn about themselves, others, and the world around them. There are regular forest days, and every year, the kids go on an overnight farm trip with the team.

Bilingual Education

Our approach to bilingual education is immersive: Both German- and English-speaking kids can maintain and improve their native language while playfully acquiring the new language through everyday interactions with their peers and teachers. Additionally, we incorporate targeted language learning activities especially at the pre-school level.

Parents’ Initiative

As a parents’ initiative, the kindergarten welcomes and depends on parents’ involvement. Depending on individual interests and the needs of the kindergarten, each family is responsible for a certain task related to the management and operation of the kindergarten, such as food shopping, finances, or organization of events. The board of management consists of three members who are elected by the parents.

Parents’ meetings are held every month and are mandatory. In addition, all parents help with the general cleaning of the facilities a few times a year and attend the yearly “Community Clean-up”. Food is provided by a caterer and daily cleaning is covered by a cleaning help, so there aren’t any daily cleaning or cooking duties for parents.

The parents’ involvement is a significant factor in the friendly and family-like atmosphere at our kindergarten and makes possible an especially constructive co-operation between the parents and the pedagogical team for the sake of our children.

Upsy Daisy receives funding from the State of Bavaria and City of Munich.

Teachers

The children are looked after by qualified educators and additional staff, to ensure the best possible care and education.

Brooke

Hello! My name is Brooke, and I’m the Einrichtungsleitung here at Upsy! I began my journey at Upsy Daisy in June 2021 as an English Teacher. Originally from Houston, Texas, I relocated to Virginia in 2009 to pursue my studies at Sweet Briar College. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2014, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of educational settings, which has allowed me to hone a diverse set of skills.

My career in education took me overseas to China, where I joined Aston, an English training school, working with students of all ages and abilities. After spending a year at one of Aston’s smaller schools, I was promoted to the position of Senior Teacher/Teacher Trainer at Aston 4 in Xi’an. In this role, I not only built strong relationships with my students but also engaged with parents regularly to discuss their children’s progress and development. Additionally, I observed other teachers’ classes, offering feedback and constructive criticism, as well as assisting with creating age-appropriate lesson plans.

Coming from a large family, I have always been surrounded by children, and this experience has only deepened my passion for working with young learners. Each new experience continues to fuel my commitment to helping children thrive in their educational journey.

Kristina

Since June 2024, I am a teacher and stellvertretende Einrichtungsleitung here at Upsy Daisy. After completing my bachelor’s degree in educational sciences in Munich, I worked with children and young adults with severe multiple disabilities, before returning to university for my master’s degree in educational management. Since the beginning of my professional education, it has
always been my goal to actively contribute to the improvement of the education system. As early childhood education is still often neglected and at the same time is fundamentally important for every educational path, I am pleased to accompany the children in their development here
before they take the big step into school. It is particularly important to me to provide individual
support for each child based on their respective strengths and abilities, and to create a needs-oriented and emotionally safe environment so that the children can develop and express self-confidence, self-worth, and curiosity. The close collaboration within our multidisciplinary team and with the parents in this parent initiative creates a unique starting point with great
potential that benefits the children´s development.

Maridel

After completing my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2008, I worked for one year as a kindergarten teacher with children aged 3-6 years old. In order to improve myself professionally, I pursued a master’s degree in English Language Teaching with units in Early Childhood Education from 2009 to 2013 while working as an ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher in the Philippines. In 2017 after working for 3 years in Dubai, I got married and moved to Munich in which most of my 2 years before working at Upsy Daisy in March 2020 were spent studying German language and immersing myself in German life and culture. It has been my dream to work with children since I was young. I believe that each child has distinct intelligences innate in himself/herself and it is the the role of the teacher to guide and help them nurture those. Furthermore, children are the future of our society and so next to playful and creative design of education, righteousness and fairness as well as imparting of knowledge and values to the children are particularly important to me.

Angelika

Angelika is a kindergarden teacher and supports the team part time one day a week.

Sıla

In 2017, I began my undergraduate studies in Early Childhood Education at Middle East Technical University. During this time, I participated in various volunteer activities related to early childhood education, such as engaging in sensory activities with autistic and visually impaired children and taking part in story-writing workshops for children.

In 2022, I graduated with high honors and worked as a teacher at an English-language kindergarten in Turkey for a year. Wanting to further my education, I applied to the Educational Sciences Department at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for my master’s degree. After being accepted, I moved to Munich and, in May 2024, my path crossed with Upsy Daisy—a place that has always felt like a dream job to me.

Upsy Daisy has not only contributed to my professional growth but also deepened my understanding of early childhood education. Every day, I continue to learn and grow, both in my field and personally. Alongside my work, I am also pursuing my master’s degree and working on improving my German.

Activities

Morning circle

Every morning we have circle time. Children gather around for stories, songs or games. It is also time for discussing conflicts, rules or anything else experienced by the children.

Music

Once a week, an external music teacher comes for music lessons.

Pre-school

Pre-school is designed for children who will be attending first grade in the coming school year. Pre-school takes place twice a week, once in English and once in German. All pre-school kids attend both classes.

Sports and exercise

Once a week the children have sports class at a nearby sports hall. We also spend lots of time in our garden or go to various playgrounds in the neighborhood.

Field trips and excursions

We go on lots of excursions, such as visiting museums, theaters, the zoo, the library, or the forest. The kids are involved in the planning and preparation of these trips. Every year in spring/early summer, we take the kids to a farm nearby – and stay overnight! We also organize a 5 day ski course for children age four and up once a year.

Parties and more

We offer many occasions to party! Christmas, ‘Fasching’ (Carnival), Halloween party, and birthdays, to name just a few. Before the summer-break we have a summer-party with barbecue in our garden for the whole family.
